DMGS-Kennan Distinguished Speakers Series: Impact of Sanctions on Russia's Elites

Feb. 4, 2019, 10:00-11:30am (RSVP required)
5th Floor, Woodrow Wilson Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC

Join the Wilson Center for a talk on how the response to sanctions by economic elites will shape Russia’s future. Nigel Gould-Davies and Daniel Ahn will discuss how sanctions on Russia have transformed Russia’s relationship with the West and argue that while direct economic impacts can be quantified, the ripple effect of sanctions on Russia's elites may be even more consequential. By disrupting elite access to Western financial and legal services, sanctions undermine the connections critical to Putin’s political economy. RSVP is required.

Speakers:

Nigel Gould-Davies, Associate Fellow, Chatham House

Daniel Ahn, senior consulting economist, U.S. Federal Reserve Board of Governors; professorial lecturer, Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies; senior advisor, Rapidan Energy Group
