Russia’s Regional Elections
Join the Kennan Institute at the Wilson Center for a discussion on the results and implications of the 2019 regional election cycle in Russia.
The 2019 regional elections promised to be one of the most pivotal election cycles of the last ten years. In Moscow, the exclusion of opposition candidates triggered protests of a scale not seen for nearly a decade. In St. Petersburg, the Kremlin acted to ensure the election of the unpopular Alexander Beglov. Three of Russia’s leading political commentators, Valeriy Solovey, Ella Paneyakh and Mikhail Vinogradov will discuss the implications of the Sept. 8 election.
Speakers:
Valeriy Solovey, independent researcher
Ella Paneyakh, docent, sociology department, National Research University Higher School of Economics, St. Petersburg
Mikhail Vinogradov, founder and president, St. Petersburg Politics Foundation
