Over the past three decades, Chinese scholars and policymakers have been debating the causes and dynamics of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union’s loss of power and the Soviet Union’s collapse more broadly. What lessons is the Chinese Communist Party drawing from this historical example, and what do they suggest about its approach to governance today?

Please join the Interpret: China project for a panel discussion of this important topic, drawing on recently translated primary source documents. The expert panel will feature Cheng Chen, professor of political science at University at Albany, SUNY, Martin Dimitrov, professor and department chair of political science at Tulane University, Jeremy Friedman, associate professor of business administration in the Business, Government, and International Economy Unit at Harvard Business School, and Yinan He, associate professor of international relations at Lehigh University. The discussion will be moderated by Freeman Chair in China Studies, Jude Blanchette.
