Presentation: Russian and Indian Perspectives on Global Governance

Feb. 13, 2017, 1:00-2:00pm (RSVP requested)
Room 450, Edward B. Bunn S.J. Intercultural Center, Washington, DC

Join Georgetown University's Center for Eurasian, Russian and East European Studies for a presentation looking at the Russia-India relationship and their diverging perspectives on global governance and regional development.

Russia and India have historically had a close and positive relationship; indeed, as one Indian scholar wrote in 2015, “Russia is India’s only all-weather friend.” But how much does that hold true anymore? Despite close and ongoing cooperation in both BRICS and RIC, Russian and Indian perspectives on global governance and regional development have begun to diverge in serious ways. This presentation will examine the differing approaches India and Russia take towards BRICS and the reform of global institutions, and what these changing approaches mean long term for the BRICS project.

Presenter:

Rachel Salzman, postdoctoral fellow, Georgetown University and visiting scholar, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies
