Serbia’s Authoritarian Trajectory Under Russian Influence

Join the Foreign Policy Research Institute for a discussion about Serbia’s future under Russian influence.

In his recent FPRI report, Richard Kraemer argues that the Republic of Serbia has become a stalwart Russian and Chinese ally run by a semi-authoritarian government that proactively pursues ideologically irredentist territorial expansion in the Western Balkans. He believes that without a significant Westward shift in its orientation, Serbia will continue on an authoritarian trajectory aligned with U.S. adversaries. What are the conditions that have led to Serbia’s lackluster democratic transformation? What are the West’s policy options? How should we understand China’s interests in Serbia? Join us for a discussion about Serbia’s future under Russian influence in this event with Richard Kraemer, Reuf Bajrovic, and Tanya Domi.
